    Simple & Sweet: Bywater Bakery

I like to think of myself as a connoisseur of bakeries and breakfast. Bywater Bakery is at the top of the list for both! It’s my favorite meal of the day, and I could eat it at any time. Savory or sweet (usually I have both)– it doesn’t matter to me.  There is a new bakery in the New Orleans Bywater that you must try. It’s a great place to meet for a casual business meeting or to grab “geaux cup.” I like to get the cup of grits with eggs and bacon with a vanilla iced coffee. When there is surplus or too softly baked turnovers, the owners give them…

Auction House Market: The Sampler’s Playground

Food Halls are in right now and New Orleans seems to be doing them well; my favorite — Auction House Market in Downtown New Orleans. Just minutes from the warehouse district, this food hall has some of New Orleans’ top restaurants all in one place.  I had dishes from Elysian Seafood, EmpaNola, and Mac & Moon.  Elysian Seafood had a crab salad to start. Fresh crab meat atop a hearty lettuce salad with a light lemon vinaigrette was a great way to start my meal. The portion was so large I could not finish it even if I weren’t tasting other bites in the food hall.  EmpaNola has the best…

    A Bad Mopho

Having great food is one thing, donating to a great cause while serving delicious plates is another! Mopho is the place to try! I tried the Crispy Chicken Wings and Brussels Sprouts. Both $5 and definitely filling. The Chicken Wings had a teriyaki glaze that is simply perfect. The wings themselves are huge! The Brussels were charred on the outside but tender on the inside with a slight smokey flavor. I also tried the Guns + Roses bubble tea with strawberry, orange, and rose water– very refreshing.  The Mocho bubble tea with iced coffee, condensed milk, and chocolate was also pretty good. You can  these straight up or add the suggested spirits to…

    Restaurant Review: Curio

So, Curio was a little jewel I wasn’t expecting to find. I was simply searching for a restaurant with outdoor seating because it was so nice and what I found was much more. Perfect weather for a cocktail. I elected to have a local favorite—the Hurricane, with extra passion fruit. The fried turkey necks in a teriyaki chili glaze was amazing! Crispy on the outside flavorful and juicy on the inside. Meat falling off the bone. For round two, I had the catch of the day which was grilled sheepshead topped with toasted pecans with garlic rice and charred kale. Yum! The plate was cleared instantly! Lastly, and certainly the…

    Mr. B’s Bistro

You’re probably not going to end up at Mr. B’s in New Orleans for any particular reason other than the building is in front of your face. Food is not spectacular and the location isn’t too inviting, but the bartender is a friendly face. When there’s nothing on the menu to your liking you describe what you’re in the mood for and he makes you something hospitable. I had the Jason’s Fruit Punch. Its not on the menu but, it should be. Its a refreshing vodka drink. Go at lunch. You should order the baby spinach and brussels salad topped with a crumbly cheese and apple slices. And definitely the…
