Time Blocking

Let me help you start your week off right. A couple weeks ago, I was all over the place and did not do a good job of managing my time. Mentally, I told myself what I needed to do and still, I did not get it done. I did not account for all the different places I needed to be or how long it would take me to get different things completed.

Because the universe so casually smacks me in the face with truth especially when I know better but, still choose to do other wise, I happened upon an article through an online course I was taking that talked about time blocking. It is another way of creating your schedule. I guess the phrase “creating a schedule” is officially out. There is an officialism to it that can be off putting.

Time Blocking is basically assigning every waking (and non waking) moment of your life to a schedule. It can be beneficial when you are growing a business, working on a project, or in a certain period of your life that needs more of your attention than usual.

While Time Blocking can be very helpful, it is not a way someone should live all the time. Holding each moment of your life hostage in not a way to be happy. It can be a very stressful way of life. ‘Controlist’ (a nicer name than ‘control freaks’) try and live their lives this way. Each time something fails to go according to plan the greater their defeat and their response is usually devastating. This can trigger huge amounts of stress.

It is perfectly normal to not have a plan. One day this week I challenge you to Time Block out a day when you want to be very productive. I also, challenge you to pick a day where you are schedule free. Go where life takes you. Life is all about balances.
