This Doesn’t Have to be Your Destiny

Can we give it up to a young Queen? Michelle Williams just recently revealed her battle with depression as she checked herself into a mental health facility. That along take courage to be so vulnerable. On Friday, Michelle reached out to her fans via her Instagram story to let them know, “I feel the [love]! I just wanted to let you guys know I’m better,” Williams posted with praying hands emoji. She later posted the same message on Twitter saying, “Progress not Perfection! ❤.”

Again, we have someone who has sold out arenas and shows, had a successful solo career, and is friends with Beyonce and Kelly. Michelle has all the things we want right? So how can she be depressed?

In Every Day Life

Often times depression has nothing to do with the happenings in our life. Many times it is has every thing to do with natural chemical imbalances within our body.

Once we identify that we are not feeling our normal selves, it is important for us to reach out and connect with someone. If we can not connect with someone, seek professional help. Depression can take many forms other than sadness.

Depression can be tiredness, lack of interest, frustration, mood swings or anything that is chronically different from your usual scope of activity.

I know it can be hard to accept the fact that you are depressed. By no means does it mean you are weak. Everyday life may guilt us into believing that we have nothing to be depressed about. While we are blessed to have more than other people in this life, we cannot neglect how we feel. Our feelings are real and are justified. We must seek out truth and understanding of our feelings when we don’t know their root causes.

Once we can identify the roots of our feelings (even if we cannot), we must let go of the shame we associate with it. For whatever reason we feel what we feel, those feelings must be blame free. Depression is not anyone’s fault. It is, what it is. Seek help and have power in the fact that you are not having depression consume anymore of your time than you allow it.

Truthfully Speaking

I am not a medical profession, but I have dealt with depression. To be vulnerable in my message, it is like a black hole. I did not even know I was depressed into I was weeks into it.  Life was passing by as I refused to leave my house, let alone my bed. I did not look forward to anything and I did not want be around anyone.

While I believe my depression was caused by a series of misfortune events and emotional anguish, it took active work to overcome it. I had to find a routine and force myself to stick to it. There are people I charge with holding me accountable. I had to want to be and do better!

I’m letting you know it is possible to overcome depression. I did it. Michelle is a ‘Survivor’. You can do it, too!

Don’t let it take any more power away from you!

You are powerful! Own it. It is the selfish thing to do!
