Listening to the Body

I know we are still grinding towards our goals and dreams, but make sure you are listening to your body. I had a very productive January, but it was not without time for healing. And even though I was stubborn and did not stop immediately to give my body rest, it let me know that it was still needed. I found myself searching for words and feeling off balance.

It wasn’t just me, I had a meeting with a potential client who was grieving the loss of her brother, and she too was “pushing through it” like the rest of us. I gave her time in the meeting to gather her thoughts because I could tell something was wrong. We spent a good part of the time talking about pausing for our body (and minds) to heal in the best way.

Our bodies are precious. They are the vehicles that get us through life. We will only go as far as they can take us so it is vital that we keep them tuned like we would an actual car. That means rest, eating well, and exercise.

Here’s the plan:

My goal is to unplug by 9 PM at night to help with my rest—no work. I also want to add off days if I work 5 to 6 days in a row.

Meatless Mondays are my new challenge in life. Not only will it allow my body a break from trying to break down processed foods, but it also creates a green impact on the world. Prompted by the Greenprint Project and Beyoncé’s new call to action for a vegan lifestyle, I see how impactful eating more vegan plates is on our envrioment.

And finally, my goal is to move some type of a way at least for 30 minutes every day. That could be exercise, yoga, a walk or anything that engages my muscles to work.

When I do all these things regularly, I stay healthy and can identify easier when my body and mind needs more tune-ups in parts of my life.

What is your commitment to listening to your body?
